Motor oil courses through the engine block as you drive. It's the lifeblood of your engine, surging throughout and bringing essential services to the many different parts that work together to move you forward. While oil has multiple jobs, we'll focus on two of them.
First, motor oil lubricates the engine's moving metallic parts, so they can glide over one another. These parts would otherwise grind against each other, causing wear and tear. In this way, oil protects the engine from experiencing more serious damage.
Second, oil acts as a heat displacer. Since the engine generates an intense amount of heat through combustion, it can run the risk of overheating and suffering damage. Motor oil soaks up that heat and moves it throughout the area to prevent that risk.
